David Kermode, founder, aka ‘MrVinosaurus’
David is a journalist, writer and broadcaster, with two decades of experience in print, online, TV and radio and a life-long love of wine, which inspired him to create Vinosaurus.
David began his career in local journalism, became a radio broadcaster, presenting programmes in regional radio and at London’s LBC, then moved into TV, where he was editor of the award-winning BBC Breakfast, edited Channel 5 News and worked in senior roles at Sky and ITV.
His passion for wine was born at a New Year celebration in New York, twenty years ago, when a magical bottle of Margaux was matched with a fine fillet steak, prompting him to both learn about, and collect, wine.
After gaining a Diploma at London’s Wine and Spirits Education Trust, David launched vinosaurus.co.uk, with the simple mantra ‘things to try and why’, aiming to explain, and enthuse about, different wine varieties and styles – and tell some of the compelling stories behind the labels.
David has a wide-ranging knowledge of wines and spirits, with a keen interest in the business development and marketing sides of the wine industry, a great eye for emerging trends, a fascination with organic and biodynamic, and lots of enthusiasm for England’s increasingly successful sparkling wines.
As well as running Vinosaurus, David now writes for a number of publications and websites, including The Buyer, for the premium on trade, and Drink Me, an American-based magazine. He is a member of the ‘Circle of Wine Writers’, and has appeared on Sky News, Talk Radio, BBC Radio 4 and BBC local radio, where he has a number of regular hour-long wine features.
David also appears as a guest speaker, and uses his presenting skills, knowledge and wit to host industry events, food fairs and tastings. He is often asked to judge for food and wine competitions and enjoys writing engaging tasting notes.
David divides his time between London and the Cotswolds and travels extensively.
