#WOTW: Vasse Felix Margaret River Semillon Sauvignon

Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc famously make a magical combination in white Bordeaux but they also shine on the other side of the world as this zesty, gluggable example  demonstrates.

Vasse Felix Classic Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2020 (£12 at Tesco) comes from Margaret River in south western Australia – one of the country’s top regions for premium wines. 70 percent Semillon and the remainder Sauvignon Blanc, it’s made with organically grown fruit and fermented with wild yeasts. The nose offers vibrant limey citrus, green apple and lemongrass with a lick of gooseberry. Mostly thanks to the Semillon, there’s lovely texture on the palate and a real sense of poise. In short, it tastes like a more expensive wine.

It’s slips down well on its own, but it would pair well with pretty much any fish dish – grilled prawns or salmon fillet spring to mind – and it could even take some spice, making it an option for a mild chicken curry or katsu.
