#WOTW: Go Gewurtz with Thai for a perfect pairing
This week’s choice is a criminally-underrated grape that’s so aromatic and exotic that it’s often assumed to be sweet: Gewürtztraminer.
With its powerful, perfumed nose of rose petals and lychees, it makes a brilliant option for Asian dishes and it can handle spice with aplomb.
The most famous examples come from Alsace, but it also thrives on the other side of the world and this week’s wine of the week is a great value example from the ‘John Lewis of winemaking’, New Zealand’s always dependable Villa Maria.
Villa Maria Gewürtzraminer is £10.99 (although often on promotion) at Majestic Wine. Fresh, tropical-fruited and bold as brass, it made a wonderful match for a Thai green curry.
