#WOTW: a plush Cabernet Syrah from Washington State

Washington State is going great guns at the moment and here’s a lovely wine from one of its most celebrated producers, Charles Smith, who also happens to have been a rock star.

Charles & Charles Cabernet Sauvignon Syrah is a well-judged blend of the two grapes, with the Syrah adding a lovely wild quality to the ripe heft of the Cabernet. This wine has a lovely plush, ripe, velvety ‘premium’ feel, but the alcohol doesn’t rage too high, at 14%, which is a real plus. Think, blackcurrant, blackberry, dark chocolate and just a hint of herbiness. Come summer, it would be a lovely BBQ wine, but i’d happily sink this with roast beef, or lamb chops.

It’s well priced at £14.99, at The Pip Stop in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Kwoff in  Bury, or Cheers in Swansea. All 3 delivery via online.
